How to save the images of a Finereader project (scanned document) as pdf

From Finereader:
File -> Save Images -> check All and Save as multi-page image file, select PDF in Save as type, and click Save

Note: This procedure saves the scanned images as pdf, not the OCRed text as pdf. To save the OCRed text as pdf you go to File -> Save document as and select PDF document.

In order to reduce the size of the file, open it in Adobe Acrobat (not Acrobat Reader) and select Save as; in Save as type, select Adobe pdf files, Optimized (from the Settings menu on the right you can adjust the settings).

The kind of size reduction you can get (taken from a real project, a 125-page document)
Save as project (from Finereader) — 671 MB
Save Images (from Finereader) — 55 MB
Save optimized (from Adobe Acrobat) — 9 MB
